Lahore: The Punjab government has announced a province‑wide scheme to help farmers buy modern agricultural equipment. The program, highlighted in a recent Department of Agriculture banner, sets aside about Rs 7 billion to provide up to a 60 percent subsidy on 37 different types of machinery. Officials say this will cut costs and encourage mechanized farming.

What does the scheme offer?
According to the Agriculture Department, eligible farmers will receive a subsidy that can cover up to 60 percent of the purchase price for approved equipment. In an earlier statement, authorities explained that a similar mechanized farming programme provided subsidies worth up to Rs 500,000 per farmer
The use of modern machinery can save energy and time while boosting crop yields.
Key features: The scheme covers 37 categories of farm equipment, with the government paying the larger share of the cost. Applicants will be invited soon, and forms will be available through local Agriculture Extension offices.
Who can apply: Officials have yet to release detailed criteria, but past programs have focused on farmers who own or operate their own farms, with conditions printed on the application form.
The initiative follows the provincial government’s broader push for mechanized agriculture. At a ceremony in Multan last year, the chief guest noted that the mechanized farming programme was offering up to 60 percent subsidy on equipment worth billions of rupees.
He said the goal was to make it easier for growers to adopt modern tools, which can reduce labour and improve harvest quality.
Officials urge farmers to stay tuned for application details and to prepare the required documents. For assistance, they can contact the Agriculture Helpline at 0800‑17000 during business hours. By spreading the word through local communities, more small and medium‑sized farmers may benefit from the scheme.
