Lahore, June 01, 2025: – In a move aimed at supporting the province’s agricultural community, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed that approved varieties of paddy seed be made available to farmers at discounted rates. Under her instruction, the government will supply bags of certified paddy seed at reduced prices through designated seed distribution centers across the province.

Provincial Agriculture Department officials confirmed that this initiative seeks to lower input costs for rice growers ahead of the upcoming planting season. Approved high-yield and disease-resistant paddy seed varieties will be stocked at government-authorized outlets, ensuring that smallholder and large-scale farmers alike can access quality seed without bearing the full market price.

“Ensuring that our farmers have access to certified seed at affordable rates is essential for boosting crop yields and improving livelihoods,” said an Agriculture Department spokesperson.

“By subsidizing these approved paddy seed varieties, the Punjab government is reinforcing its commitment to agricultural growth and food security.”

Farmers are advised to visit their nearest agricultural extension office or approved outlet to purchase seeds at the subsidized rate. The program will run until allocated supplies are exhausted, with priority given to registered farming communities.

Punjab’s rice cultivation sector contributes significantly to both provincial income and national exports. Analysts believe that lowering input costs through subsidized seed can help increase planting acreage, bolster production volumes, and enhance crop quality factors that directly benefit rural economies.

For more information on seed distribution points and subsidy details, farmers can contact the Punjab Agriculture Helpline or visit the department’s official website.
