Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has started a new solar energy project for agricultural tube wells. Around 8,000 farmers across Punjab will get solar-powered tube wells during the first phase.

This initiative is part of ongoing farmer-friendly schemes, including the Kisan Card, farming machinery programmes, and internships. In a special draw for the solar tube wells, Muhammad Nawaz Kankla from Attock became the first farmer selected.

The chief minister announced financial support to farmers:

  • Rs500,000 subsidy on 10kW solar systems
  • Rs750,000 subsidy on 15kW systems
  • Rs1 million subsidy on 20kW systems

Currently, diesel pumps make up 87% of tube wells in Punjab, while electric pumps are 13%. The government aims to complete the first phase by June.

Farmers will benefit greatly from this project, saving an estimated Rs350,000 per month. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said, “Solar-powered tube wells will lower production costs significantly, helping farmers become more prosperous.”

She added, “Every programme we introduce, including the Kisan Card and machinery schemes, aims to make life easier for farmers.
