Lahore, June 1, 2025 – In a major push to strengthen the province’s vegetable sector, the Punjab government today released ₨600 million under its new Kisan Dost Package. Announced by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, this landmark support aims to boost onion and tomato cultivation through subsidized inputs and expert guidance.

The scheme includes:
- Seed Subsidies: Certified onion and tomato seeds at reduced cost.
- Fertilizer & Pesticide Aid: Approved nutrients and crop-protection products from registered dealers.
- Technical Support: Field visits and workshops by Punjab Agriculture Department agronomists.
- Market Assurance: Guaranteed minimum support prices and links to bulk buyers.
By focusing on these two staple crops, we will stabilise supply and protect farmers’ incomes,” said the Agriculture Secretary at the launch event in Lahore. Early estimates project a 25–30% rise in per-acre yields, bolstering both rural livelihoods and consumer prices.
The Kisan Dost Package also offers soil testing services and on-farm demonstrations to ensure best practices in planting, irrigation, and pest management. Punjab’s agriculture officials will track progress across every district to measure impact and share lessons with growers.
With the Rabi and Kharif cycles on the horizon, this support arrives at a critical time. Farmers and stakeholders are encouraged to follow department updates on agripunjab.gov.pk or contact their local Tehsil office for more details.
