A review meeting for the “Plant for Pakistan” initiative occurred at Agriculture House, Lahore. Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, Secretary of Agriculture Punjab, chaired the session, which aimed at finalizing a detailed action plan for Punjab’s Agriculture Department.

Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo highlighted the readiness of the comprehensive action plan designed for “Plant for Pakistan.” Currently, the initiative is active across all government-run agricultural farms in Punjab. Specific plantation targets are assigned to each field formation within the Agriculture Department. These teams actively engage with farmers, educating them on agro-forestation practices and their practical advantages.

Moreover, three agricultural universities in Punjab—located in Faisalabad, Multan, and Rawalpindi—have been given distinct plantation goals to contribute to the initiative. These educational institutions play a key role in raising awareness and promoting research in agroforestry.

Special attention is directed toward farmers who hold Kisan Cards. The Agriculture Department contacts these cardholders, highlighting the necessity of planting trees and the long-term advantages of doing so. Farmers with Kisan Cards gain targeted guidance and educational support, making them active contributors to Punjab’s environmental improvement and agricultural sustainability.

Senior officials, including Special Secretary Agriculture Agha Nabeel Akhtar, Additional Secretary Agriculture (Planning) Captain Waqas Rasheed (retd), and Director Generals Agriculture Naveed Asmat Kahloon and Chaudhry Abdul Hameed, participated in the meeting.

The Agriculture Department of Punjab is dedicated to advancing agro-forestation through practical actions and farmer awareness. Readers are encouraged to support this valuable environmental initiative. Share your views and experiences on tree plantation below and help spread awareness by sharing this news.
