The Agriculture Department of Punjab, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has launched the Smog Control Program for 2024. This program aims to reduce smog by controlling harmful farming practices, such as burning crop remnants.

Setting crop residue on fire is now a legal crime, and those found guilty will face strict penalties. Burning crop remains not only harms the fertility of the soil but also contributes to the rise of smog. Smog can be very dangerous, leading to poor air quality and even deadly accidents.

To help farmers avoid burning their crop waste, the Punjab government is providing them with modern farming tools. Under this program, the Agriculture Department will distribute 5,000 Super Seeders at a total cost of 5 billion rupees.

In addition, 2,000 rice straw shredders will be given to farmers at a 60% subsidy. These machines will help farmers manage crop waste in a safer and more eco-friendly way, reducing the need to burn it.

This initiative is a step toward protecting both the environment and public health by addressing the root causes of smog in Punjab.

Chief Minister Punjab’s Smog Control Program 2024: Key Points

The Agriculture Department of Punjab, under the leadership of CM Maryam Nawaz, has rolled out a comprehensive Smog Control Program for 2024. The main goal of this program is to reduce smog by preventing the harmful practice of burning crop remnants. Here are the key points:

Burning Crop Remnants is a Legal Crime:

Farmers are now legally prohibited from setting crop remains on fire. This is due to the severe environmental and health risks it poses.

Farmers Will Face Legal Consequences:

Those who are caught burning crop remnants will face strict legal actions. The program emphasizes accountability to protect public health.

Legal Notices Issued to Offenders:

Farmers who burned crop remnants last year have already received legal notices, serving as a warning to others not to repeat this harmful practice.

Subsidized Modern Machinery for Farmers:

The Agriculture Department is helping farmers by providing the latest machinery at subsidized rates. This will allow them to make scientific use of crop remnants without resorting to burning.

Agri Department Officers Authorized for Legal Action:

Agriculture officers have the authority to take immediate legal action against farmers who violate the new regulations by burning crop waste.

This program is designed to ensure a cleaner environment and safer farming practices across Punjab. By providing modern tools and enforcing strict penalties, the government is working towards reducing smog and improving air quality.
