MULTAN, June 15, 2025 – Under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s High Wheat Cultivation Program, Punjab Agriculture Minister Ashiq Hussain Kirmani today distributed free green tractors to selected farmers in Multan as part of a province-wide initiative to boost wheat production. The scheme will provide 1,000 tractors free of cost to eligible wheat growers, with delivery scheduled within three months of selection.
A total of 57,733 farmers who cultivate more than 12.5 acres applied for the Free Tractor Scheme, and after a rigorous scrutiny and verification process, 21,496 farmers were deemed eligible for digital balloting. Ultimately, 1,000 successful applicants across Punjab will receive 55-horsepower tractors at no charge.
This distribution in Multan represents a key segment of the broader rollout aiming to modernize farming practices.
Punjab has seen wheat cultivated on approximately 560,000 acres this season. By supplying modern tractors, the government expects timely land preparation and sowing, leading to higher yields and reduced manual labor costs. Mechanized farming under this program is projected to improve efficiency and strengthen food security in the province.
The selection process was transparent and based on clear eligibility criteria: farmers with land holdings in specified acreage bands (e.g., 12.5–25 acres for land levelers and 25–50 acres for tractors) underwent a digital balloting process to ensure fairness. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif personally congratulated winners by phone, underscoring the program’s high priority in her administration’s agricultural agenda.
This free tractor distribution complements other support measures, including Kissan Card loans and Super Seeder provisions, forming a comprehensive effort to uplift Punjab’s farming community. Farmers in Multan and beyond are encouraged to utilize these tractors promptly and follow guidance on operation and maintenance to maximize benefits. The program underscores the government’s commitment to empower wheat growers, boost rural incomes, and secure a bumper harvest for Punjab.
