Lahore: The Punjab Chief Minister has approved a Rs 2.5 billion incentive package to support early cotton cultivation. Officials confirmed the move during a review meeting to assess progress and update the province’s cotton farming policy.

Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo explained that farmers owning 5 acres or more will receive Rs25,000 in financial assistance. The support will be provided exclusively through the Kisan Card as part of government incentives to expand the cultivation area to 1 million acres.

So far, early cotton planting has been carried out on more than 700,000 acres, a notable increase compared to last year. This significant progress is making headlines in Punjab agriculture news and reflects the government’s renewed focus on strengthening the cotton farming policy.

Key officials at the meeting included:

  • Additional Secretary Agriculture Task Force Punjab, Muhammad Shabbir Ahmed Khan
  • Director General Agriculture, Naveed Asmat Kahloon
  • Director General Agriculture, Chaudhry Abdul Hameed
  • Project Director Dr. Muhammad Anjum Ali

Local sources note that the initiative will likely boost crop yields and support the broader agricultural sector. Officials and farmers alike see this as a decisive step toward improving the economic prospects for the region.
