Overview of Crop Varieties Development
- Wheat & Barley: Significant progress with 103 new varieties, showing a steady increase in research from the early 1900s to today.
- Cotton: A total of 75 new types developed, with notable advancements made between 1963 and 2010.
- Rice: Developed 35 varieties, adapting to different environmental needs and enhancing yield.
- Sugarcane: 29 new varieties were introduced, mainly focused on increasing sugar content and disease resistance.
- Maize & Millets: These essential grains saw 48 new varieties, improving both drought tolerance and nutritional value.
- Pulses: With 51 new varieties, efforts have increased to boost protein content and adaptability to various soils.
- Oilseeds: Introduced 57 new types, focusing on oil quality and resistance to pests.
- Fodder: Developed 47 varieties to improve the nutritional value of livestock feed.
- Vegetables: Saw the introduction of 83 new varieties, enhancing both taste and nutritional benefits.
- Fruits: Major strides with 159 varieties, focusing on flavor, longevity, and disease resistance.
- Olive and Potato: Newcomers with 4 and 5 varieties respectively, aiming at specialty markets.
- Others: 9 new varieties focusing on niche agricultural needs.
